Compared to ground stations, it differentiates pollutant characteristics within and outside the boundary layer, aiding in the estimation of local pollution in Taiwan and providing a basis for environmental policy formulation by the EPA.
Atmospheric Pollution Monitoring
The Lulin Mountain background station is located downwind of atmospheric pollutants from East Asia and biomass burning transmission paths from Southeast Asia. It serves as an intermediate station for atmospheric pollution monitoring along the line from upstream Indochina, Southern China, to Hawaii in the Western Pacific.
International Cooperation
Promote participation in international monitoring networks, strengthen international cooperation and data exchange for background station monitoring, expand environmental technology diplomacy, and actively enhance international visibility.
The Lulin Atmospheric Background Station (LABS, 23.47°N 120.87°E, 2862 m ASL) in Central Taiwan was constructed in 2006 and is the only high-altitude background station in the western Pacific region for studying the influence of continental outflow.
